Caffeine in the form of coffee or tea can be great. It helps us start our days or push through a busy week. However, drinking too much caffeine can actually impact our energy levels negatively.
Here is what you need to know:
There are some studies that show that coffee can actually provide positive health benefits and green tea, for example, is actually high in antioxidants. With that being said, not everyone reacts to coffee and tea the same. Some people can’t handle 1 cup of coffee whereas some people can drink2 or more cups and not notice any difference.
Water is one of the key ways to increase energy levels but when you are drinking a lot of coffee or caffeinated tea, you are simultaneously dehydrating yourself. You don’t necessarily have to cut it out but be sure to compensate by drinking more water.
Drinking too much caffeine, particularly in the afternoon, can disrupt sleep patterns. In order to feel energized during the day you need a good night’s sleep so be sure to stick to caffeine in the first half of the day.
Caffeine also activates your adrenal glands giving you that burst of energy you want but it also means that you will experience a crash resulting in decreased energy. Since it is addictive many people will then drink more coffee when they are experiencing that energy crash and keep that negative energy cycle going.
As mentioned, coffee can increase fatigue but also cause things like dizziness, anxiety, heart palpitations, digestive issues, and more.
Just remember, everything in moderation!
How many cups of coffee or cups of tea do you drink in a day? How does it make you feel anxious or jittery? Do you feel different when you drink coffee without food?
